The work has started. As you can see the pool is empty and it only took a couple of hours for the two pumps to do the job. After it was empty they took a steel rod and punched about four holes in the bottom of drain well so that water could drain out or up if there was excessive pressure in the water table. Excessive rain at this point is their worst enemy.
You will notice the coping was removed in two places. These are areas where the tile had popped before. Well the thick bed of mortar they used to set the tiles was only a bandaid. Their contention is that using a layer of then-set which will be much thinner is the correct way to set the tile........being the active foreman on the job, I concur.
Another surprise, when they removed one of the ceramic bullnose from the steps there was another one under it. This means that this set of steps was done twice. The team of workers that are there now do all the prep work. Removing all the tile and the final coat which can be from 1" to 3+" thick, then and acid wash it followed by a prep coat. Then comes the next team, the finishers.
The committee who picked Penguin Pools is to be commended.
